Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett hardly need to be said, I suspect, so here's two slightly less well known and just as awesome fantasy authors:

Charles de Lint (he writes some of the best urban fantasy out there. Check out Memory and Dream, one of my favourite books ever)
Glen Cook (his Black Company series is one of the best I've read in a long time)
