NaNoWriMo True-Life Tale: Don

I felt like one of the great novelists of old, bravely pursuing storytelling fame without the distractions of being a parent.

NaNoWriMo compelled me to convert our little-used travel trailer into a writer's cabin. It was perfect: away from the household hullabaloo yet within reach of the wireless AP, with a little fridge, and a table to set up on. I took my dinners out there and pounded the keyboard far into the night, bottle of scotch at the ready. I felt like one of the great novelists of old, bravely pursuing storytelling fame without the distractions of being a parent. Now, having experienced my absence while I was out writing my NaNoNovel, my wife encourages me to move into it permanently. Yay! Thank you NaNoWriMo!

...the mice will play.

Well, the boys are both away at school and the lower floor of the house, which was essentially their digs entirely, is empty and unused. So, I think it's time.

I've participated in this a few years now, but have only won once. Part of my problem is time, of course, but another part is not being able to have my own corner to claim as my own (mentally anyway). I will now claim the entire lower floor for myself during the entire month of November. It has a comfortable feel, music, TV, a bathroom and even a pool table, so I think I'll be able to commit decent chunks of time down there.

My novel this year is tentatively called "The Indwellers" and is in the Social Science-Fiction genre. We'll see how this works out!
