Each Word is a Mile; My Novel is a Road

Cybele May @ Sun, 2008-11-09 23:12

50,000 Miles in NovemberOn November 1st, as I'd planned, my car's odometer turned over to 50,000. (With a bit better planning I would have preferred November 30th but that's what I get for going up to visit my Office of Letters and Light buddies in September.)

So it was there and then that I changed my personal word goal for my 2008 novel. I will write as many words as my car has on its odometer on November 30th.

And to make it easier for me to meet this goal, I walked to my Write In today - it's a win-win, I'm driving less and getting more exercise!

Don't worry, I didn't take that photo while driving. I had help.

Haha, brilliant idea, Cybele.

Very eco-friendly, too, if you want to keep that goal low!
I'm all for the green scene...added points if that really is a Prius! My novel actually features a Prius, coincidentally. And a solar car...a lot of green-ness to be honest.

Anyway, what's your estimate goal?

I considered it an accomplishment when my word count was finally over my odometer the other day, but that was just over 24k. How's that odometer looking now?

Well, if I had that goal, I would have to write over 200k words in November. I'll leave that to you. Good luck!

That sounds like a pretty cool goal to have! Best of luck on that.

That's a very cool idea!

(I don't have a car, so maybe I'm already done... Yeah, I wish.)

Why, is that a Prius dashboard I spy? I stared at your picture for a few minutes thinking to myself, "Why does that look so familiar?" And then it hit me that, of course it looks familiar because I stare at it for an hour a day during my commute to and from the day job. Come to think of it, I bet my mileage and my word count goal are going to end up pretty similar, too. I'll have to check when I get back in my car this afternoon!
