Now accepting pep!

Lindsey Grant @ Fri, 2009-03-06 12:53

2008 was an incredible year for pep. We heard from such literary legends as Philip Pullman, Piers Anthony, and Katherine Paterson (to name a few!).

Let's make the 2009 lineup just as amazing and inspiring. We'd love to know who you'd like to hear from that we haven't received pep from before. Discovered a new favorite author? Have an old favorite author?
Let us know!

Hmmm...

Ingrid Law (Writer of Savvy, great children's book)

JK Rowling? (if you didn't get Stephen King, then she'll be impossible. D: But it's worth a try!)

Lemony Snicket (His pep talk would be EPIC.)

Eoin Coulter (Author of the Artemis Fowl series)

James Patterson

Gregory Maguire (writer of the famed 'Wicked'. o3o)

I don't know if she's been mentioned and I'm not going to read through 300+ comments to find out but, Alice Sebold would be very nice.

Sad about the Stephen King turn-down, I've loved him since I was a teenager. I almost wish I didn't even know because now I'll just be thinking, "Aw, I want a King pep..." all of November.

Patricia Briggs! I got her to come and give our group a mini pep talk last November and she LOVES the idea of encouraging people to write a novel in a whole month.

Ahh, I totally don't remember if I posted here yet or not - forgive me if I have or it's too late to put in suggestions :D

I suggest:

David Sedaris (I ALMOST told him about NaNoWriMo when I met him this summer, but my mind went black as soon as he said "Hi!". I kinda couldn't do anything but stutter.)
Holly Black
R.A. Salvatore
Gail Carson Levine
Tamora Pierce

Meg Rosoff! She wrote How I Live Now, which one
a bunch of awards* and is an utterly fantastic YA novel. It's not long, and it was her first, I think, too -- totally a NaNo inspiratoin.

Printz Award, Boston Authors Club Julia Ward Howe Prize, Branford Boase Award, ALA Best Books for Young Adults, Publishers Weekly Flying Start Author, Booklist Books for Youth Editors' Choice, Kirkus Reviews Editor Choice Award, Publishers Weekly Best Children's Book of the Year, Horn Book Fanfare).

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett hardly need to be said, I suspect, so here's two slightly less well known and just as awesome fantasy authors:

Charles de Lint (he writes some of the best urban fantasy out there. Check out Memory and Dream, one of my favourite books ever)
Glen Cook (his Black Company series is one of the best I've read in a long time)

Malorie Blackman (Author of Noughts and Crosses, Knifes Edge, Checkmate, etc)
She's an inspiration and I know many people that follow her novels closely- her writing and characterisartion truly is incredible.

Other than that I think Eoin Colfer is a brilliant author, as well as JK Rowling (but what are the chances of that eh?)

Actually just thinking about it, JK Rowling was a briliant author but there are others that have written better pieces, but were not as lucky as her.

Thats just what I think (But seriously, Malorie Blackman is a genious and I would be SO inspired and would love the NaNoWriMo team forever if they got her to write a pep talk...
Thankyou! :)

With all the naming they got I guess Pratchett and Rowling are no longer necessary to mention.

But how about some people who originally did not write in English for a change (but are translated enough to be known). Foremost Ralf Isau and Cornelia Funke.

Many people have probably already offered this author, but I believe the reletively new but extremely liked author Patrick Rothfuss would do a wonderful job at being one of our peps! He is the author of "Name of the Wind", and soon to be "Wise Man's Fear"

Stephenie Meyer would be funny any other time, but I really would prefer if she was not trying to pep-talk me in the middle of NaNo. I would get a headache and feel angry, which would not help.

People I WOULD like to hear from (some of these may have already given pep talks because I have a horrible memory)- J. K. Rowling (why not shoot for the almost-impossible?), Robin McKinley, John Flanagan, Rick Riordan. And that's about it, since a lot of my favorite authors are dead. D:

John Green! He's a new-ish realistic, young adult fiction author...his best-known (and award-winning) work is Looking for Alaska. I adore his books, especially Paper Towns, and he's pretty young - encouraging for all of us young'un NaNoers!

Also, Cassandra Clare (author of the Mortal Instruments series). :)
