Happy midway, SoCNoC!

June 15 marks the midway point for the Southern Cross Novel Challenge, New Zealand's answer to NaNoWriMo. For the Kiwis, June provides the writing-friendly winter weather that we residents of the Northern Hemisphere enjoy during NaNoWriMo.

We're waving from way up here in California and cheering, "Go SoCNoC!"

We're also wondering a few things, like "Do you eat Mint Slices while you're writing?" and "What is the preferred beverage of SoCNoC participants?" and "Where do SoCNoCers fall on the issue of wearing brown with black?"

If there are any Kiwi novelists out there with the answers, please chime in! And keep writing. Only 15 more days to reach 50,000 words!

And for those not doing the full thing, there is still HalfNoC in which you can choose to write 25,000 words. In fact, you've still got a good chance of doing that too!

I am very happy that SoCNoC has caught the Nanowrimo blog's attention - it's always fun being noticed.

Mint slices - I use them as bait for catching ninjas, always at the far end of a deadly obstacle course.

The only drink that you can use to prepare yourself for the pal'noc'far is lemon, honey and hot water. Good for avoiding colds too.

Wearing brown with black?!?! What, are you some kind of whacko? You'll attract wyverns if you do that!

I don't do the mint thing, but we have lots of great wineries down here to keep me adequately lubricated while writing. And colour-wise, any colour so long as it is black!

Whittakers white chocolate, please, and plenty of it. A mug of steamy Cadbury hot chocolate with full milk. On the matter of black and brown, well, it's all about the contrast.

...today, it snowed in various places in New Zealand. Where it didn't snow, it rained, and subantarctica winds shrieked their way up the islands to remind us why we stay inside and write in June.

By crikey, it's cold out there.

So: kiwi winter novelling:
(1) Mint slices, no. Well, not personally. Others may differ. Anzac biscuits (cookies to the Americans reading...), yes. Also, timtams, crunchie bars, and cadbury dark chocolate. And a good indian curry from that place down the road.
(2) "Milo" hot chocolate drink, laced with shots of espresso coffee? Yes, please!
(3) Brown? Black? I don't care, as long as there are layers of it to keep this damn winter out. brrrrrrrrrr...

Well, I for one, certainly do eat Mint Slices while writing during SoCNoC, and my beverage of choice is coffee!
As for wearing brown with black - always a matter of personal choice, but I'm not against this combination, in fact I appear to be wearing some brown and some black right now....
Thanks for the blog love and encouragement, we all appreciate it over at Kiwiwriters :-)
