Am I listening to Leather and Lace? Yes. Yes, I am.

Erin Allday @ Mon, 2006-09-25 01:12

I know I'm fully enmeshed in NaNo season when I'm listening to really awful music and emailing MLs at ungodly hours. MLs? If you're reading this, and you're convinced I've been avoiding you, and you've been crying yourself to sleep at night waiting for a reply to your very important email: Pull yourself together! OK, kidding. What I mean to say is I'm sorry, and I promise Real Life things like "my job" and "going to the gym" and "talking to friends and family" will no longer interfere with my NaNo duties.

Yes, while you're all a-jittered waiting for the forums to re-open, me and my new ultra-fab assistant Megan are working behind the scenes to get MLs signed up, drop classy (and blindingly (literally) awesome) T-shirts in the mail for the sophomores, and generally wreak havoc for Russ.

New MLs! Ever felt like you had waaaaaaaaay too much time in November? Like writing a 50,000-word novel in 30 days was just *too easy*? Like you needed a *real* challenge? You totally want to be a Municipal Liaison! Shoot an email to MLs@nanowrimo.org and we'll hook you up with the best drugs. Er. Not drugs. But you will get first dibs on NaNo goodies!

Need more convincing? Check out this stat:
Last year, we had 334 MLs. Of those, 62 percent finished their novels. That's, like, way better than the overall win-rate for NaNo (um, 16 percent?). You're practically guaranteed a win!

ML signups will be open through October. If you have any questions, ask away!

(If you already have volunteered and haven't heard back from me yet, please don't worry, and expect an email from me by Wednesday.)

Hm. Jesus Walks. Much better.

-Erin

Me Too Rori!

I have all of these great ideas for generating publicity and arranging great write-ins but I am nervous about going too far without "Official" ML status...

But I must be patient...

I know Erin must be SWAMPED! I will just content myself with posting flyers around town for now....

When do we find out if we got the ML gig for this year? I'm anxious to know so I can run around with all my boundless energy that I won't have for long.

I get the most anxiety when I am alone and think about all that needs to be done over the coming weeks. On the flip side, I am the least ridden with anxiety when I am talking to somone that has never participated before and wants to know, "What it is all about".

I have set the evning of Oct 19th as our day to get a head count and pass out more information at my day job at an area library.

Right now I am alone, so I am asking myself, WHAT have I gotten myself into!?!" I must admit it helps to know I am not alone in this, by reading the previous post.

I'm seriously pumped about my annual gig as an ML.

I mean it. Nano is fun. Nano as an ML is like fun with the volume turned up to 11.

I think that being an ML DOES give you an incentive to finish. Who wants to show up at a meetup they organized themselves and look into the eyes of their Nano crew and say 'I'm not gonna make it'? I don't want to let them down, I want to lead by example.

By the way, Erin, you rock. I say that every year, I just wanted to get a head start on it.

Dear Erin,
I finally convinced myself that, if I was going to be able to talk the talk, I'd better walk the walk. Had serious misgivings about my sanity in taking on ML status AND finishing a second Nano challenge. Knowing that you are certifiable as well makes me feel comfortable with the decision.

My heart is beating so fast in anticipation of the upcoming fugue that I can barely type. Thanks for the therapy.

Man, my pathetic word count last year really needs to be justified now. XD I mean, I'm one of the 36% who didn't win, and by didn't win, I mean didn't even make it 1/5th of the way there. But then again, I had 18 hours of college, plus choir, plus a job that was supposed to only be weekends but turned into "weekends and many evenings", and was swamped with projects.

This year? I have no excuses. All I'm doing is working. Granted, I'll be either learning a new job, or learning how to be a manager at my current job (as if I don't get this promotion this time, I'm quitting and getting a new job), but that won't be too bad.

And I'm actually aiming to crank it up a bit, and do a 75k story instead. That should give me enough of a draft to actually DO something with afterwards. :)

Hope real life eases up on you! :) *snugs*

OK, I've been anxious too about getting ML status, but I'm feeling better to know you're so busy and it's not just me. (Sorry, that didn't come out exactly the way I would have liked.)

I'll just go ahead and plan my parties and activities and wait patiently for confirmation. :)

So I just sent my request to be an ML. Do I really have the time/talent/energy to do something like this?

For dibs on NaNo goodies? I guess so!

Wish me luck!

Hang in there, super ML lady. I have faith that ye shall triumph. And stuff.

And you know? You should come up with something neat for us oldbie MLs. My highlighter shirt's looking a little... okay, it's just as brilliant as the day I got it. But come on, a girl can whine, right? Herding CATS, for pete's sake!

I was wondering if there are any MLs for college campuses. I'm going to try to spread the word about NaNo this year - via posters, word of mouth, sidewalk chalking (maybe!) and any other way I can think of. Probably won't get quite enough people to make an ML necessary, but still ... if there was a reasonable response, would it be a possibility?

Welcome Erin!

I wish there were enough NaNoers here to warrant being an ML...but we're so few in SPAIN that we don't even have our own board, much less the need for an ML in the Canary Islands...thank gods for the boards, I want them back! I miss lurking!

"First Dibs on NANO goodies"? (perks up)

My part-time day job is in a library and I am doing the ML this year for the first time. I have been amazed at the amount of questions I am already fielding. So much so, I have my moments of "freak-outish-ness" (yes, that is a word now ;0)

Septemeber isn't even over yet and I am chomping at the bit. Commmeee Onnn November!

Erin! Welcome to the NaNoBlogoSphere.

I've been so less than helpful about everything this year, but it all worked out so well. I think that I will choose 'less than helpful' as my mantra for this nano season. Less then helpful should allow me to be more than useful. And actually finish my novel.

I like the way you spun the ML win rate. You're good at this.

There are certain requirements, and you do have to be over 18 (over 18? or 18 and older?)

Here's the fine print.

Do you have to be over a certain age to be a ML? Are there any requirements at all?

334 MLs? Wow, I just never imagined there were that many. I've already sent in an e-mail (and yes, been a little overly anxious about hearing back from you. Sorry.) I can't wait to start planning stuff and get goodies. When people are unsure about meeting up with local WriMos, licensed merchandise is always a good way to sway them.
