How Did You Celebrate?

Here it is, you've reached The End. Well, not really. There's lots to be done. Perhaps you need to write more, you probably want to edit (or at least proofread) ... but most of all you want to recognize this moment. And probably with some of the only people who really understand: other wrimos.

Chris Baty

Are you going to your Thank God It's Over Party (TGIO)? Did you go?

Whether your did or not, consider this you invitation to testify ... hop up onto this virtual stage and tell the world that you wrote a novel.

I raise a toast to everyone who opened with a blank file on November first and now have something to call a nvoel. I knew you had it in you.

I did it! I typed the end at 11:30 on the 30th, after about 90K words. And I cried.

And then I went to our local TGIO with three other winners and made plans for ongoing support and critique.

Because I was traveling a large portion of the month, I didn't have an opportunity to attend any write-ins but, thanks to my writing buddy, I did have a small rubber duck ready to whip out) or the TGIO parties. I enjoyed the virtual support of the fellow nanovelists on 43things.com.

On the evenings following NNWM, I had deja vu from when I finished my MBA: the entire evening was free. Very eerie, but I'll manage ;-)

I celebrated by going to the TGIO party in San Francisco and had the best time! I'm generally a shy person and have a very hard time in A. large crowds, B. large crowds of people where I know almost no one.
The Nano'ers are some of the nicest, kindest, friendliest, most enthusiastic, least judgmental, most encouraging folks I've had the pleasure of meeting. I had a blast! So, to everyone I spoke to last night (I'm the one whose name tag said "57,081 words and still no plot") thank you so much. And a special thanks, of course, to Chris without whom I'd still be saying "I guess I'm just going to give up the idea of writing because I don't feel inspired anymore. . ." Last night I heard so many people talk about how Nano changed their life. Ditto.

after a 20k sprint to the finish line, accomplished within 24 hours that included college courses and napping time, i celebrated by getting a good night's sleep. whoo. sleep. i'd forgotten what that feels like...
