The "American Idol" of Writing Contests

Tavia Stewart @ Fri, 2007-01-12 12:48

Hello Writers!

Wouldn't it be cool if a Wrimo won this contest:

http://firstchapters.gather.com/

You can win 5000 big ones and a book contract. You already have the book written, so all you have to do is send it on in!

They will post part of your novel on their site, and an editorial board will judge them, just like on American Idol.

I am totally going to do it!

Tavia

You should also check out the Writers of the Future Contest where you can win $5,000 and you get published in the yearly anthology to boot! Every quarter 3 winners are selected by people such as Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey, Tim Powers and Kevin J. Anderson. The website is:

This is the first year I am joining this mad marathon, following a fellow writer who has three NaNoMos to her credit. To compete for the title "NaNoMo Idol" I have to disrupt my life.

I know I won't write in my own home. I'm distracted by family who cannot be denied a chat or immediate help. So I'm leaving the state to live alone in an empty, sparsely furnished house. I don't know the neighbors. I'll have no excuses for not finishing my book--except perhaps agoraphobia and paranoid hallucinations.

Hi all,

I just read this for the first time, and I'm interested, but the link to the story no longer works! Could someone please point me in the direction of current information, a contest homepage maybe? Thanks a million!

Brilliant..
Was looking for something to do in my new found retirement (playing with cats only goes so far). I'll have to put take-out pizza back on speed-dial!

Hmm... sounds like fun, but what about the coveted first rights?

But I guess since winners are getting a publishing contract out of it, that it's good for them. But what about all the other writers who don't win or arent even finalists?

Anyway- If your novel usn't up to par, you can finish/edit, or completely write a new one. First submission deadline is March 15th, right? That gives you a month and a half from now.

Go, Speed Racer, go! lol

And I've been trying to spread it around - you seem like the kind of person who might not be offended if I send it your way....http://www.clicknathan.com/?s=a+maple+tree&x=0&y=0
