NaNoWriMo Duds for that Other You

Cybele May @ Fri, 2007-10-19 15:12

Rainbow sporting the fashionable SL Wrimos TLaura Rainbow Dragon may be writing a novel during November, but that doesn't mean that she's going to abandon her virtual life. In fact, she's going to be sporting her own virtual NaNoWriMo Tee Shirt in Second Life.

Are you a Second Lifer? Check out her blog for SecLiNaNoWriMos ... and find the rest of your crew on the forums in the Groups & Clubs section for Virtual Worlds.

So what are the other MMORPG folks wearing to show off their noveling?

(Of course the best piece of virtual headgear any wrimo can don is the timeless halo you get for donating to keep NaNoWriMo here year after year.)

That shirt is awesome! My SL boyfriend and I wear them alll the time when we write while online. Along with the shoulder teddy bears also provided to the group. In fact, we kinda dress alike (adding black pants/hair to the rest) and everyone stares and asks what's up - it's great fun

As an avatar in Second Life, I can say that clothes do not fit avies the same way they fit real people. Clothes generally fit like a second skin - if there is a shiny effect to the t-shirt (I can't see it, it's blocked by my employer) or the appearance of wetness, it is from the effects applied to the picture that was uploaded after being tweaked/created in Photoshop or GIMP software.

Unfortunately, avies also succumb to the same appearance pressures that RL women do, and some avies are very anorexic. While my avie doesn't look exactly like me, she doesn't look like she's starving, either.

My only question is: why does your avatar on Second Life have to look like a concentration camp victim? And why (OK, two questions) is the T-shirt sticking to her? Is it a wet T-shirt?
