What's your greatest noveling distraction?

NaNoFlyMo

Seriously, you think that some noisy people at the library are distracting? That a neighbor's dog is keeping you from getting your daily goal done?

Check out Last Night who has a healthy tally of 12,945 words and won in '05 & '06.

(I just want to know where I can get my own goggles, helmet and a serious sound dampening headset like that!)

lol, that's exactly what I do. I go to one of the food places on campus to write when my dorm gets too quiet.

That is my problem too.

I'll get on to type up a few hundred-thousand words, and then it strikes; the desire/need to check everything.
I'll read some entries, and then update my own livejournal, i'll check here, i'll go on various other sites.

I then get caught up in my music and msn, and then writing other things.

Theres also the issue of work and things i can't avoid doing, and the occiasional breaking out of my [as of lately]social coma to see some friends.

My greatest noveling distraction is, believe it or not, the internet. Damned thing. Whenever I sit down to write I wind up checking web comics, my email, playing tetris, writing in my livejournal, or - hah - here. Then I move to a non-internet location, go hang out at the library, or the local starbucks, or heck, just go to the park and I find myself playing solitaire. I can play solitaire for hours.

I should gut my computer down to iTunes and MSWord and see how productive I am. Ah computers, how dearly do I love thee, and how deeply dost thou striketh at me.

My greatest distractions are reading, since i just love reading, especialy fan fiction, my 2 puppies who come for my attention (seriously, who can resist such cute faces?), and my mother, who steels my computer from me for the net.

Somehow i am still keeping my word count up, but that is probably because i stay up till 2am every night even if i have to be to work early. energy drinks are my new best friend!!!! ;)

one annoying as hell word: HOMEWORK.

This weekend I had four houseguests, one boyfriend, two children, one Suzanne Vega concert, one trip to Pike Place Market, one hunt for as much Bacon Salt as we could possibly buy, one ex-husband and his girlfriend over for breakfast, two episodes of House to watch, one grad school application to finish, and one parenting book to read. Plus dishes & laundry.

But I got the words in. Had to work late nights & got nothing done on Monday, but I'm caught up now.

My distractions as of late have been catching up on my online social life and the soon to be the large pile of homework that I've been neglecting. Yeah, two exams in the next couple weeks will be cutting into writing time. Not to mention that my dad is out of town this week and I now have full access to all the Discovery Health channel I could possibly want..

I have been updating all the holiday wish lists on Amazon for my family. Talk about distracting. Window shopping on the internet with the GREAT excuse of getting ready for Christmas!!! woohoo!

My greatest noveling distraction is The Sims 2. It seems that everytime I get to a good writing place, EA sends out a new expansion pack.

My greatest noveling distraction is MUSIC! I can't stand listening to music while I write. I sing, so I get distracted with words. I play the cello, so I'm distracted listening to the notes in the song.

My two biggest distractions are:-
I am meant to be planning my wedding (at my home) for mid January. I am actually glad to get away from all that wedding stuff. Yet, I have a garden to keep at, and a house to clean, along with all those little things. I don't yet have my wedding shoes.
Also, I have the two cutest puppies, who I have to keep an eye on, walk, feed, play with and generally be with instead of writing.

What doesn't distract me? Too noisy, too quiet, chair too high, chair too low, dogs want out, dogs want in.

And would somebody PLEASE answer the phone? Oh, it's for me? Sure, I'll take the call...

Distractions are so easy to come by, aren't they? For moi, it would have to be my friends that are constantly logged onto Gmail-chat and for some reason won't stop talking to me....
I wonder why that could be ;)

My greatest distraction would be EVERYTHING ELSE.

The dishes are dirty? Oh, let's wash 'em.

I haven't written fan fic since when? Last November? Better think of some new adventures for Buffy and pals, right now!

We're out of milk? I'll go, sure!

I think my system is being sluggish. Better sweep my drives right this second. And let's be sure it's the lengthy, intense kind.

I came from a noisy family (two sisters, six brothers, five cats, mom, dad, me, huge extended family) so my greatest distraction is sitting at home ... in my quiet home... all by myself...

I get antsy! I'll think, "Man, I need some music." so I'll get up and put on some music, and sit back down. But then I'll be uncomfortable. And then my cat will be totally cute, and after a good belly-scratching session, I get back to my novel.

Then, the music stops and it's quiet again. Absolute silence. I usually head to a coffee shop for the natural noise that comes through there. :) Whew. Thank goodness for people who talk on their cell phones.

This is my first year doing NaNo exclusively on a computer with wireless internet. It's a terrible distraction. I don't get anything done unless I turn it off.

Nice shot of the chopper! I began my own writing career using my Palm Pilot and a portable, folding keyboard and writing for anywhere from 5 to 25 minutes on my breaks at work. You can get a tremendous amount accomplished if you seize the moments! Keep doin' it and you'll never be sorry.

Hmmm. Don't want to sound smug, but I don't do distractions. I work 4 days a week & my kids are 4 and 7. I don't want NaNo to interfere with domestic life if I can help it, which all means I have no option but to focus. If I have an hour, I have to use it, because I'm not going to get another one. Desperation is a marvellous thing!

My greatest distraction is anything other than writing itself, but, usually, my greatest reason for not getting up and writing is because I feel too exhausted from my daily duties, like schoolwork and washing dishes. I try to write during commercial breaks on TV, but even though I can concentrate enough to read during these two-minute intervals, they're never quite enough time for me to write anything substantial.

I second the 2-year-old distraction. Luckily mine takes SUPER long naps in the day, that's when I usually write. The biggest problem today has been RENOVATIONS going on in my apartment building (that, as a sidenote, are only supposed to be done on weekdays) and that sound like divebombers attacking us. Intermittent drilling coming at random moments is more distraction than I can handle today.

I could really use some of those noise-cancelling headphones today. My tiny earbuds aren't quite cutting it.

My greatest distraction is *noticing things*. Like yesterday, I noticed how amazingly BORING my dorm room is, so I spent 2 hours rearranging all the furniture. It was a lot of fun, by I didn't get any writing done. *sigh* C'est la vie

For me, it's reading. I love to read and I keep telling myself that in order to be a great writer I have to read to continue to learn. Well, in order to be a great writer I also have to write (of course). No more excuses!

My greatest noveling distraction is my two year old daughter who wants to have all my attention focused on her.
