The OLL-iverse: Starlog 13

Hello friends! This Week in Review is brought to you by Ari, who had cheese for breakfast, cheese for lunch, and will soon be having more cheese as the office closes for the week (see below). So basically, cheese.

NaNoWriMo

  • We’ve entered the Chase Community Giving contest, and we’re moving up and up! We’re aiming to be in the top 11 by Wednesday; the top organization is awarded $250,000! This would be a huge deal for a small nonprofit like us. This is a great opportunity if you’re strapped for cash, but still want to show your support. If you vote, you’ll be helping us inspire even more people around the world!
  • Our Executive Director, Grant Faulkner brought in his son and daughter to model the newest YWP shirt for us. We had them high-fiving, flexing, and dancing in front of a brick wall while we snapping tons of pictures for the store page. It was a blast! Keep a lookout for these shirts in the store if you have a little Wrimo in mind!

Happy September! This Week in Review is brought to you by Ari! Who’s that, you say? More on that below.

NaNoWriMo

  • The 2012 swag is finally here! So far the office favorite has been the Nutritional Facts thermos, with a list of all the active ingredients that make for a great novel.
  • We also interviewed Nic Buron, the designer for this year’s NaNo shirts and stickers. In the meantime, NaNoWriMo draws closer. Sit tight, November. We’re coming for you!

We are now officially on the other side of August! Congratulations to all you Campers who won, and to all you Campers who strove valiantly to win. What is it you deserve? That’s right, a big ol’ gold star, slapped right across your forehead (the Camp poster will have to stand in your place for now).

Today’s recap is brought to you by Tim, who got a little gif-happy in his quest to properly convey our excitement at your Camp NaNo victories.

We are heading into our final weekend of Camp NaNoWriMo August 2012: the Inner-Editor-Killer, Plot-and-Character-Thriller Edition, also more manageably known as “CNATIEKPACTE”. Acronyms make things so much easier, always!

This is when we buckle down and turn into a Boot Camp. So put those dukes up, strap on those breastplates, and let’s get kick novel behind. You know the parameters of your mission, read on for updates, context, and color from your members of HQ on the ground.

Today’s recap is brought to you by Tim, who busts ghosts, and cries salty tears over his keyboard during moments of writer’s block.

By the time you read these words, I will be gone. Alas, my tenure at the OLL has come to a close… for now. I’m off to the seasonal lands of the east, to icy winter and humid summer, where I will run LARPs and then go back to college for one final year.

This summer has been one of the best of my life, and the OLL has been central in that. I’m very sad to be leaving them behind, but rest assured, like the Governator who shares most of my last name… I’ll be back.

Oh, right, you probably want to know what happened this week. This week’s recap is brought to you, for the last time this summer, by Ben Schwartz (Note from Tim: Who will be dearly missed!).

This week, we saw the launch of August’s session of Camp NaNoWriMo. In celebration, let us enumerate a few of the many things we love about Camp.

1. The guaranteed soap opera brought about by the neighborhood Yeti, who is very sensitive for someone so tall and hairy.

2. Keeping an eye on those virtual Paper Plate Awards awarded at the end of Camp. I will be this session’s “Camper Most Likely to Write a Happenin’ Sock Hop Into Their Novel” if it’s the last thing I do.

3. You campers, who never fail to make Camp a wonderful experience, and come up with great ideas, like Oreo smorgasbords, time travel romances, and freeze-dried Yeti meat. Muahaha.

This week’s recap is brought to you by Tim, who is a little delirious from writing all night, and working all day, and by Sonja, who is out-illustrating Ben by a mile.

The office is full of donuts. Where did they come from? No one knows. Are they delicious? Of course. Are they inspiring? Absolutely. Do they make the office smell kind of greasy and weird? You bet.

This week’s recap is brought to you by the intern tag-team of Shelby and Ben. With their powers combined, anything is possible. Even epic karaoke duets. Even this recap.

I’m still on the run from July! It keeps trying to track me down, with fistfuls of frozen dairy products. Have you ever had to flee an entire month? It’s not as easy as you’d think. It’s everywhere! It’s on calendars, email headings, newspapers… Hopefully it won’t show up in this blog post. We’ll see.

Today’s recap is brought to you by Ben, who is not fooled by July’s clever ploy to sneak up on him with gorgeous sunshine and pleasant breezes.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to July! Did you know that July is a silly month? True fact. One time I was hanging out with July at its house, and it had the thermostat up way too high. I asked it why and it told me it was so that we could have an excuse to throw ice cream at each other. I pointed out that ice cream, while delicious, is sticky and kind of gross when melted. July responded by throwing a full tub of vanilla ice cream in my face.

These days I prefer to hang out with cooler months, like August or November. Whatever, July. I suppose I should still let you know what happened this first week. This recap is brought to you by Ben, who isn’t so fond of vanilla either.

Hello, everyone! Do you know what time it is? Correct, it is weekly recap o'clock! My favorite time of day. My favorite time of week, really. That’s right, out of the whole week, this is my favorite time. I get to look back and remember everything that happened! How great is that? So great. Seriously. It’s even better than rest o'clock (though relax-thirty is a close second).

Today’s post is brought to you by Ben, who has a very fine hat. He’ll tell you all about it next week.

And we are back with another inspiring edition of your catch-all review of all the wild and exciting things that happened around the world of Letters and Light this week!

Today’s post is brought to you by Ben, who is not actually in the office today. He is off paddling his car into the sunset.

Good morning, sports fans, and welcome back to your favorite feature: the weekly recap! Plenty of excitement went down in NaNoland this week, and we’re here to make sure you don’t miss a bit of it. Want to be sure you’re up to date on your swamp things and alligator attacks and priest-strangling noodles? Then this is the post for you!

Today’s list brought to you by Ben, who thinks that writing is still more important than sleep, but sleep is pretty wonderful when you can get it.

Hello, OLL fans, and welcome to a new blog feature! On Fridays, we are going to recap all the goings-on in the world of Letters and Light.

There’s a lot happening every week, whether it be existential crises brought on by too much Twitter whimsy or the latest Yeti sighting in the virtual forest at Camp NaNo’s edge, and it can be hard to keep track of. If you want to make sure you don’t miss the highlights and higher-lights, this post is for you, completionist.

Today’s list has been brought to you by Ben, your camp co-counselor and fan of the Prairie Home Companion.
